Around October of last year, Rotten Tomatoes released its list of the 100 worst-reviewed movies from 2000-2009. I consider myself a connoisseur of bad movies, but I had only seen three movies on the list! With some extra time on my hands due to a four-day work week, I decided to make it my quest to watch at least one of these movies each week until I had seen the whole list.
There's no way I could watch all of these movies without sharing my thoughts. So far, I have watched forty-four of these films and had posted reviews (ranging from brief to too long) on other blogs and a few movie review sites. Enough people have asked me about my quest that I've decided to start this blog to keep all of the reviews (and new ones) in one place. Over the next day or two, I will be posting the existing forty-one reviews (I haven't yet done actual reviews for the three movies I had previously seen: Rollerball, Epic Movie, and The Adventures of Pluto Nash) and then we'll go from there. On top of the list, I'll happily review other bad movies I see. There are a lot of them.
The question I get the most is: "Don't you watch any good movies?" I do, but movies like The Graduate and Jaws have been reviewed to death. There aren't as many reviews of Corky Romano or The Celestine Prophecy. Bad movies give me the opportunity to mock openly (aside from the ones that just make me angry), while good movies don't provide any opportunity for humor. Try writing something about Casablanca without sounding like you're drooling over its perfection.
The second question I get is: "How do you have the time?" The movies take two hours a week, plus usually a few minutes to write the review. It's not rocket science. Plus, the time I take just means I watch a little less History Channel than I used to. These movies are awful, but it's really fun to watch (most of) them. So, off we go.
